I had a tattoo done here :

http://www.smartshanghai.com/venue/1992 ... o_shanghai

was quite satisfied, but I think they gave me a foreigner price (2003 ... just arrived in Shanghai)

That time a japanese student refered the guy to me. She also had some work done there.

The place is clean and they do not reuse the needles ... (at least I saw the guy unpack the needle when he prepared for the tattoo)

The receptionist speaks good english ... One of the Backstreet Boys got a tattoo done there (I think he got the characters 音乐 tattooed on his arm.

Btw, please do not get chinese characters as a tattoo ... whenever I see a foreigner with such a tattoo I burst into laughter. Have to admit though that I also thought it is cool until I learned the language and found out how stupid it actually is. Well at least here in China you can be pretty sure that the artist will not mess up the character. I once saw a guy in a club who had the character 强 tattooed on his neck. But the character was vertikally inverted. Man that guy gave me the evil eyes when I pointed at his tat and started laughing ...

Dont know about other places here in Shanghai, but I had 2 tatoos done here.
Both near JinAn Temple, same place but different tatoo artists.
First one he was a colombian guy, I payed 800¥ for a small tatoo, same with my husband. Then the guy went to work in USA. He also put my piercing.
Second, he was from Thailand, 2000¥ for a big tatoo in my leg, and a 2000¥ for a big tatoo in my husband's chest. Once in a while he is back in Shanghai. Very clean place, he open needles on front of us, breaking it after. Very nice guy.
He and also the first one, told me never, ever, do any tattoo with a chinese person, because they saw many of them re-using needles. So, never mind the place where you're doing it, pay attention on what the tattoo guy is doing, with needles, ink, etc.
The last one told me: if the guy doesn't use a sealed pack of needles, run away, and be aware if he doesn't break the used needles on front of you. They need to do it.And the place where theu put the ink also needs to be trashed.
I thing the Thailand guy was quite good, because we could see the passion he has for tattoos, and he also told me he usualy refused to tattoo something that he knows the person could regret later, like boyfriends names.

I was not thinking about chinese charactere tatoo.

Actually the design I have is hereunder.

It will be in a hidden place: on the pelvis.
EDIT --details that might seem as pretentious removed --

But I think this design is not tatoo friendly...too many details.

Any tatoo expert here?

I can recommend Shanghai Tattoo.

I don't/won't do tattoo's, but I know Dylan and Ting, and they do good work, and are highly recommended by people that have used them.

I agree with those who have recommended Shanghai Tattoo. Dylan and Ting are great, clean, use new needles and ink and make sure you are aware of it. Went to four places here before deciding on them and what really convinced me was Tings drawing ability. Instead of trying to convince me to go for something that they had already done (wanted a butterfly), after explaining what I wanted she drew it freehand and it was better than anything I had seen in the other places.

That's what I love about tattoo's. They give you a great indication on the intelligence level of a person without actually having to communicate with them!

I got a tatty done by a Chinese artist named Just. His work is top notch and also uses clean needles. At least a handful of my buddies that visited me in Shanghai got their tats done by him. He used to be on yishan bei lu in xujiahui, but now hes on julu lu in between changshu lu and fuming lu. New shop is really nice. Really really chill guy and will make any changes or adjustments u request without seeming like you insulted him (a lot of artists feel like what they draw is perfect)

Does that mean you walk round with a constant boner?
If not, where does he point when you are not "erected"?
Did you choose a pointing magician because you're impotent and it's kind of magic-like if you do get an erection?
