Tennis Rackets @ Shanghai Science and Technology

Postby notnotz » Mon Aug 13, 2007 11:02 am

Hihi,

I'm thinking of getting a tennis racket whilst I'm here on work in Shanghai. I was @ the new Xiangyang market @ Shanghai Science and Technology Metro where I saw some shops selling Wilson tennis rackets. Are these rackets the real stuff or just imitation stuff?

If anyone can provide me with a rough price guide that I should bargain down to, it would be greatly appreciated!

So the rackets sold in the flea market and the department store are exactly the same in quality?

sorry if I've confused you... for I'm terribly lost myself.

suppose u showed me your new racket. say u told me u bought it from a dept store. i could then conclude they were (in all likelihood) real. if u told me u bought your racket from xiangyang market, i'd say they were almost certainly fake.

OTOH if u showed me a racket w/o telling me where u bought it, i wouldnt be able to differentiate a real from a fake. this doesnt mean there's no way to tell, only that i couldnt.

it would be different if the item in question was a rolex.

You can find real one at these small shops which are located inside of a tennis court, such as Fuxin Road Tennis Court.

I can tell the difference, it is the same for golf clubs. But seriously, tennis rackets are not that expensive and you only need 1 (or 2 as a back up). Compared to golf clubs, it's peanuts, so why buy a fake one?

are there difference grades of fake (tennis) rackets? if yes, are the very good quality fakes indistinguishable from the genuine article?

I'm not too sure if the ones in the market are real or not (they look real to me... my eyes are not as sharp as yours)... and thus the question.

Tennis rackets; check the frame, the material used, the small details, even the strings used, but that's not the major issue. There are different grades of tennis rackets. Like I said, the material used, the details, the paint used (try to scrape it off for instance), all focused on the frame work, flexibility, etc.

same for golf clubs, stiff flex, flex, stiff, you can feel the difference, look at the clubhead, just compare.

I am sure the Wilson rackets on the market are fake, they probably charge you around 300RMb for it, while real Wilson rackets are at least 900RMB (the cheap ones).

Depends on what you are looking for...

To me, since I played tennis for a few years I am sure that I could make the difference between a real one and fake one. Even if the fake one looks exactly the same, then with trying it, the differences would appears. Weight, vibrations, string tension, quality of the grip and so on. If you plan to use it once in a while, then you could go for a fake one, but still, take care of what you buy. Maybe you could hurt your mates with this stuff ;)
