Thanksgiving Potluck w/ Random Strangers

Postby vinabobina » Tue Nov 09, 2010 10:59 am

Hey you!

I'm missin the creamed corn, stuffing, lasagne, apple pie n' candied yams n' good company back at home..
It would be nice to have some homemade food for a change made with looovveee.

Anyone wanna lend a location for a potluck dinner w/ random strangers? Anyone wanna cook a dish and share your secret recipe to a potluck dinner w/ random strangers? Anyone wanna lend an oven? Anyone wanna jam?

I'm throwing this out to you users out of inspiration from the recent diesel campaign: be stupid. Yes momma, I'm talking to strangers.

Who knows. It could make a difference.

I'd actually consider hosting this, but I doubt anyone wants to come to Pudong Jinqiao area. Otherwise, I'm no cook, but could contribute some soft drinks or wine or something.

Except, we're not random strangers.

I'm having a potluck at my place on Friday with some friends. It'll be a small, student-budget, Chinesified affair (id est, nothing on OP's list), but others are welcome to join in.

I don't have an oven, and my cooking is "dusty", but I have enough space for a few nice people. In Puxi.

Ah...Jinqiao a tad bit far! :(

Potlucks are fun!
I did ask the kitchen and a few culinary schools if they had an open venue, n' we could offer them good publicity, but they weren't keen on it without a fee.

I have an industrial oven! but can't find a venue. People are welcome to borrow it!

Here are the details for the Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner

Date/Time: This Saturday the 27th of November.Dinner starts at 7:30!

Location: aLeGna has kindly offered to host.

Table will be for food and drinks. We will have two microwaves to heat up the food, and disposable plates n' cups. If there are more than 12+ attendees, there might not be enough chairs and some people may have to stand n' eat. Note: There is a cat in the house!

Door Entry: A dish enough for at least 8 servings/person, bottle of wine, or what you think would complement the dinner! RSVP by Friday night via PM, and we'll send you the details for address and directions.

We'll update the menu on the forum...when we have the confirmed attendees.

So far attendees and what they're bringing to the dinner:

vinabobina- candied yams! wine! microwave, foldable chairs, speakers

For any last minute pick up, Carrefour is only 10 minutes away by foot, and there are Chinese grocery stores as well as City Shop within 2-5 minutes walk.

I can make mashed potatoes, and will try creamed spinach too. :D

I'll probably pick up some veggie/dip and rolls/butter. We'll see, my shopping skills are almost as bad as my cooking skills!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Shar - get some desserts, and drinks!

Should we prepare some ice as well? Depending on how many drinks we end up having, and wine to chill, we may need a cooler and lots of ice. Unless you like room-temperature drinks.

Guys, you may also want to bring some games and DVD.
