The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Powerful Lessons in Personal Change was a groundbreaker when it was first published in 1990, and it continues to be a business bestseller with more than 10 million copies sold. Stephen Covey, an internationally respected leadership authority, realizes that true success encompasses a balance of personal and professional effectiveness, so this book is a manual for performing better in both arenas. His anecdotes are as frequently from family situations as from business challenges.
Before you can adopt the seven habits, you'll need to accomplish what Covey calls a "paradigm shift"--a change in perception and interpretation of how the world works. Covey takes you through this change, which affects how you perceive and act regarding productivity, time management, positive thinking, developing your "proactive muscles" (acting with initiative rather than reacting), and much more.

This isn't a quick-tips-start-tomorrow kind of book. The concepts are sometimes intricate, and you'll want to study this book, not skim it. When you finish, you'll probably have Post-it notes or hand-written annotations in every chapter, and you'll feel like you've taken a powerful seminar by Covey. --Joan Price--This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

There are so many of these business and self improvement books, dont know if I am being cynical but they do improve the authors living stanard at the expense of your pocket.

In general, yes, but this book has been around for years (at least 10, if I'm not mistaken). Some of the stuff is rubbish, but most of it is common sense.

Unfortunately, common sense is not all that common. So people will pay for it.

Gems like "Begin with the end in mind" encourages you to determine the goal of the project and then every action should move you towards attaining that goal.

Simple really, but how many people are told to do X then do a lot of pointless activity in a mad rush that has nothing to do with X? These types often wind up doing a pretty poor job that has nothing to do with the goal of X, so it has to be redone at extra cost and time. Not too effective, to say the least.

I would suggest this book for anyone under the age of 30. If you are over 30, you are probably too old and jaded to get anything worthwhile from it.

^ agree with most of you doc. But you still can teach an old dog (over 30? that's still young) a few new tricks.

Some people have success principles by genetics or environment. For others we are what we read, and instead of programming our minds with crap news, we can program our minds daily by reading success books. I have read alot of them, and they are not a waist of money. But of course you need to read and practice regularly so the stuff becomes habitual.

It's always the non successful types that will say reading such books are crap.

I personally recommend any book by L. Ron Hubbard or by the Frenchlover, as well as, of course, the latest edition of the Expert Guide.

- Yes?
- Well, you're a French police inspector, yet you speak with a Scots accent.
- Aye, it worries me, too.

I took read the book too, but afterwards my boyfriend left me, I became lesbian, the girl left me too after a while, I lost my job, had to sell my house and my cat. However I can sell vacuum cleaners door-to-door quite well. For two years when I was in UK I was selling hardcover bibles and Watchtower magazines too, I was doing ok. In Shanghai I have run a small Amway business, selling to people I met at Senses and to my English students. I am thinking of taking the course when they come to Shanghai - was the initial post a advertisement or something, can you post a date or some details? If you have seen the ads in City Weekend, you know I am also selling 22-volume encyclopedias now, like in the good old days of our childhood.

BELLA BELLA;

I suggest you play that counrty music song backwards. You may not get your cat and your lesbian back, but your get a golden labrador retreiver, a red 4X4 and you won't need to rely on your amway / encyclopedia business (although i'm sure it's a very lucrative business)

Yeah, getting married even makes the Expert Guide 2006 obsolete.

The Expert Guide 1994 taught me how to get married to the right one (she can support me) and how to get all the lovers I want, which include all kind of variants (or is it deviances?). Chapter 6 about ladyboys was expecially useful, not in the latest edition unfortunately. Jack Welsh prefaced the 1994 edition, under the pseudonym of John Scott but "we" all knew who he was. He also prefaced the 1996 special edition (the one in verses). If you are who I think you are, Andreas, you were there too at the launch ceremony in Singapore, right? BG Lee made a speech. I was a junior officer at my embassy there at the time, my boss the Ambassador invited me, mainly because I was a Mason too. I think I was introduced to you by someone from the European chamber. Small world, the world of Ethe xpert Guide readers.
