I second that. Nice locker/shower room as well.
Only pity is no pool area, and I wish they had 1 isotonic drink in the drink bar like other branches.

unfortunately, yes only 1 store... a big one though... they pretty much occupy the entire basement 1 of Plaza 66.

By saying which is the "best" gym there a few things to trade off.

Fitness First seems recommended, but if it is not in your price range and not convenient to get to then it might not be the best for you. There are other gyms of lower quality but cheaper (eg Megafit) or higher quality and more expensive (Alexander Club).

I suppose the main trade off you want to do is between cost, convenience, quality of facilities, and how busy it is.

I'm currently with Physical gyms because it is very cheap (1700/year) and convenient for me. But many of the machines are creaking and I am only able to go first thing in the morning because any other time it is packed solid (because it is so cheap).

My advice is to find yourself all the gyms that are close to where you live - there's no point joining a gym if you can't get to it. If you can't jog or cycle to it then it's too far (just how lazy do you have to be to take a taxi to the gym?) Then check out the costs and facilities at the peak times and decide from there.

Took greenmark's advise and had a look around, I stumbled upon Amore Fitness Center at Hong Xu Road. It's a women's only facility, the place is new, clean and also has a very nice sauna and spa section. The equipments are in good condition, and there's a yoga/steps/stretch etc lesson almost every hr. I went for the $6000 annual membership which includes $4000 worth of spa treatment. I don't know if that's too expensive, I guess it's alright, since there's not much ppl, so I won't have to line up for equipment and showers.

Shranna,

Close to Xu Jia Hui Clark Hatch is a nice club but a little expensive compared to others. It's on Wending Lu and Hongqiao Lu. Also in the mall there is a physical which is more reasonably prices with quite a few class offerings as well. I really would recomend finding something close to where you live. The closer it is the more you will use it.

Just another option - California Fitness (called 24 Hour Fitness in the US) is opening at Infiniti Plaza on Huai Hai Rd end of October. They also have one in Beijing already.

I think location is a big issue for gym preference as not many people will travel far to their gym if they go frequently.

My gym that's 15 mins walk away is closing down, and members are getting transferred to Alexander. That means I have to take a taxi...annoying!

Is this gym operational? I know their gyms in Singapore are quite good. If they have the same quality machines (+affordable rates), will consider to join.. anyone any update for this?

Hey everyone, My wife and I are new to Shanghai. We live in Pudong near the Meglev station. Any suggestions for a decent gym? We're looking for something within walking distance. I heard there was a Megafit gym near the Metro but couldn't find it...

Any suggestions?

Thanks...

Yes, it's fully operational and yes, the facilities are very good. The main issue is the price which isn't on the cheap side. I paid around RMB 5k for a platinum membership which allows me access to every single location on the planet, including all the US locations. I'm not sure if there are better value packages if you only need to access the Shanghai location.

Any recommendations for a gym in/near the YangPu district? In general, do gyms usually offer 6 month or month-to-month memberships? Thanks!

Lots of showers. I used to only go in the mornings at 7 so it was always very clean, but in the afternoon it probably gets very dirty noisy busy.

Ritz Carlton Hotel at 20,000 RMB per year.

Clean as 5-star hotel standard in the US.
