Was in there yesterday watching the league & Super 14 Rugby. They had happy hour prices up for the first time, read something like:

25 RMB - Carlsberg, Bud, VB, Pure Blondes, House Wine, House Pour Spirits, and I think also 2 cocktails.

4-8PM.

Watched the new Matty John's Footy Show there on Thursday arvo.

Loved the show - great to see Matty Back.

Love being able to watch the NRL at the Camel!

Great Place!

Went in last week...met some nice Ozzies, drank my VB, watched footie on the tellie, and attempted to play pool on their 7' kiddie tables. I nominate them for the worst tables in any major bar in Shanghai. Not someplace I'd return to, but if I was from Oz, seems a decent enough place.

The classic of La Liga, this Saturday night (4am of Sunday) at Camel Bar

We've chosen the Camel Sports Bar, because we heard good reviews, and after checking out the place we thought it was perfect to host a bunch of Spaniards on a Saturday late night... plenty of big screens plus a central cinema-sized screen, darts, pool, the best soccer, and if we reach 50 people, the bar will give us happy hour deal during the whole game.

Happy hour changed on friday; now 2 pm-6pm.

I hate these type of marketing techniques....especially in f&b, keep things straight, clear and understandable. Will safe your staff trouble as well.
This sucks.

I can only say that my first experience at the Camel Bar, during the match of Real Madrid vs. Barcelona, was very good. The crew were very nice, even though we packed the bar with over 130 people (at 4am!) and the bar offered us the promised happy hour throughout the game. The place is awesome, big, huge screens and audio system, and I will put it on my priority list for the coming World Cup.

But yeah, I agree that the happy hour deal has to be something regular and somehow standardized. They shouldn´t be changing it every now and then, I want to go to a bar knowing that until 8pm I will have happy hour deals... (if I ran my own bar, I would extend happy hour even longer... at least during my first months of operations, to gain patrons).

I really like the place, agree about the happy hour. Their main competitors like Big Bamboo, Malones etc..happy hour at those places is 2pm-8pm. Pretty standard happy hour times. I'm a day drinker, so I'm all about the happy hour.

Its definitely a one off - Happy hour is just 2 hours earlier for the 1 day only - so those of you that don't have a job or can manage an early knock off on Friday can take advantage of the 25 RMB drinks from 2 pm instead of 4 pm and get 4 hours of 25 rmb drinks from 2-6 pm followed by 3 1/2 hours of 25-35 RMB Australian beers from 6 - 9:30 pm. Thats 7 1/2 hours of drinks from 25 RMB - Everyones a winnner.

Great raffles prizes with proceeds going to the Shanghai Municipal Welfare Foundation of Disabled.

Dont forget on Sunday all 3 AFL games will be live along with all 3 NRL games.
Followed by The EPL and IPL Cricket final

Don't forget the League. I note from the Camel site that there's also Bulldogs v Broncos
at 5:30pm and Cowboys v Eels at 7:30pm (Delay)

Just because Austcham's a bunch of retarded AFL-centric twits, there's no reason for the Camel to omit mention of the Greatest Game of All.

BTW - Expo tickets for the disabled: WTF???
"help us give those less fortunate the opportunity to visit the Shanghai World Expo 2010!"

HuH? Whatever happened to us raising dough via raffles, balls etc. to fund local kiddies' open heart surgeries? Canes or wheelchairs or operations for the disabled, sure. But Expo tickets for the disabled???) FFS!!! Get a grip!

It's bad enough that our tax dollars are being wasted on our country's participation in this pile of crap, but raising funds to help force poor disabled people to go view that shiteheap? Talk about losing the fecking plot, Austcham...

Agreed with BB. I'd prefer to donate to surgery for kids than tickets to a yawn/no go. AustCham, please re-focus. It's for the best.

Just my two cents on the camel...

Went in the other week to try and find a Euro football qualifier (which likely had a global audience of lass than a few hundred, and had a Shanghai audience of 3) - boss came over, had a look through all of their channels to see whether they had the game and apologised when they couldn't find it. He then gave us his card and told us to give him a couple of days notice the next time we had a game - he'd make sure it was on.

After years of being treated like crap at the Big Bamboo and O'Malleys because we're not England/France/Germany/Holland supporters, they won a friend that night. Will definitely be going back.
