You obviously don't know much about it BB.

They have a consulting chef (very well known around town) plus i believe they have their full time #1 and #2 chef

ALL of the previous staff of 1oz3 have been offered jobs should they decide to return after CNY (30 staff, not the 3 or 3 that you claim).

I'm not saying that they will satisfy the 4 things i mention above. Pretty sure they'd get the beer right though based on who one of the partners is, and their staff could not have less clues than a couple of other places around town.

Ouch! Deal breaker #2. "Consultant" and "good food" do not go together.

Sounds like the "Applebies" of sports bars.

A lot of anger in this thread. A new bar is opening in town, and people can either go, or not go. Whats the point of idle speculation when all it would take would be a taxi ride to actually find out for yourself?

I know that consultants of all kinds are the ones that failed in their respective fields and got kicked upstairs so that the real talent wouldn't have to deal with them.

Food consultant? I shudder.

We shall see once they have opened. From what I've heard it doesn't bode well. But let's see what their food is like since importing mediocre bottles of wobbly pop from down under places them firmly in neutral territory in my book.

If they have the "purple tin" then all food crimes will be forgiven.

Its a sports bar not a fine dining restaurant. Go in, drink beer, watch sport, maybe snack on something deep fried, its not complicated.

Not that it has anything to do with it but the slamming of food consultants is uninformed. Do you really think David Laris cooks at all his venues around town? He does a lot of consulting and I would hardly call him failed at his field.

I did ask this earlier but no-one answered - is it a secret who the guys are running this place?
I am looking forward to trying it out, is it definitely opening on Friday?

Appearing for the defence:

David Laris' globe trotting consultancy and media empire, and once-beloved restaurant that nobody now talks or writes about now that he's no longer there.

For the prosecution:

The miserable train-wreck that is Eduardo Vargas' once foolproof gig. King Midas put his finger into too many pies.

Don't think its a state secret. Run by a bunch of guys, including one of the founders of 'the other' Shanghai sports bar.

I'm biased, I know the guys and wish them all the best. The fact that's its on the way home for me is a godsend; getting across town to the Boo is now a nightmare.

Was that meant to be an insult? I've been to the Bulldog and if ever there was an old man's bar that was it. Not necessarily a bad thing by the way...

I think there is plenty of room for everyone to survive and take a slice of the cake. That said, I haven't been to the Bulldog since C.Cooper left and they painted the place. We used to actually watch ALL our sports there...

Just to be clear, the camel is having a soft opening on friday? or is it already open. Might stop by for a beer after work and take a look.

Soft Opening is Friday form what I hear. Not open yet, so will be a 'real' soft opening...

It's NOT free beer or anything tonight, so the freeloaders should not be there.
