The Camel is coming

Postby Lordlunchalot » Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:15 pm

A few coldies were tested out on the bar top tonight and I can report that all is in order.
Not open yet but they have enough flat screens waiting to be installed that I'm glad there are no sports bars in the area.
Great crew behind the place. Will open post CNY.

Looking forward to checking it out, so long as the "Camel" isn't leading us to water.

The joint is huge and partook in a few lagers last night with the Camel brains trust. Going to be a great spot run by a cool crew of blokes. Should be rocking early March....stay tuned.

Big selection of draught beer and local/imported bottled beers. Could be a real hot spot for this years World Cup.

I was there yesterday afternoon and its going to kick ass. Its finally a Sports Bar that has been given some thought too. BIG huge Tvs everywhere, Projectors, Huge huge bar area that can be divided into half for different sports. Nice decor, lots of fans for the hot world cup to come, will have plenty of decent beers (oh....and Just beer too :-) Some decent music on the playlists (natch) Nice and easy to find. Its opposite Dragon Club. From Abbey Road or Eager Beaver its one minute walk towards the Brauhaus (on Abbey Road side) I think the Malleys,Bulldog,Oscars and Blarney are going to lose a lot of custom when Camel opens. Good luck to the boys over there. Its looking good

Yes, it's going to be good. I hear the owners are doing 100% exclusive JustBeer products :) Also, their VIP card is sensational. Walrus got the first one ;)

Sounds cool. Is it mainly for watching sports or do they have tables and stuff?

Never really gained a good appreciation for O'Malleys....Sasha's is too pretentious for me, that brewhouse is way over the top if it is still there, and after the Bulldog told me they had "no free water" for my little ones as they ate lunch one day....that place is penciled off for good now.

Glad to know it's opening up.

why the name "camel

Its a franchise, originally dating back ca. 2200–1700 BCE in the Bactrian city of Demetrias, I believe.
For those not in the know, the Bactrian camel is the twin-humped variety, named after the said region. Hope that helps Frank

Deal breaker.

The best sports bars don't really have very many T.Vs. Certainly not many of the flat-screened ultra loud variety. A great sports bar (if there is such a thing) is simply a very good bar or pub that just happens to always have the game on. Usually without sound and on a wonky old large-tubed tv in a prominent place in the main room.

Places like O'malleys, big bamboo etc.. always get it bass akwards by placing television as their prime draw. They do well, but essentially it's your crappy apartment with horrible food and obnoxious strangers instead of friends.

I am new to Shanghai but walked past this place last week, it looks great, i met an Irish guy out the front who told me they will have Aussie beer and Foxtel Sports channels including live AFL and NRL. All they need is Four and Twenty Pies and it will just be like being back home! Anyone know know exactly when it opens?

Opening at the end of February. Beer list will be very good for sure. They will have a number of our porducts (www.justbeer.cn), most likely Blonde, VB, Crown, Boags and Fosters. Apparently they will have every AFL and NRL game LIVE!!! That's what they say, but we'll see. Looking forward to it.

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.....Dave Barry
