The Da Vinci Code Movie

Postby acujerjer » Sat May 20, 2006 5:16 am

I just saw the movie. I won't spoil it don't worry.

11 AM on a Friday the theatre is totally packed! I never read the book, and like most films, I'm sure the book is better. The only movie I thought was on par with the book was Narnia.

Anyways, I give The Da Vinci Code 2 huge thumbs up and rate it as excellent! I was enthralled the entire 2 and a half hours. I was bummed when it was over. I wanted it to go on longer. Tom hanks and I think the French girl is the chick from Amalie. They were great! The story is real good and a great blend of myths, truths and fiction. The Catholics and Christians I'm sure will be going ape shiit about it. Finally!

I am surprised that this type of story that debunks Christianity and Catholicism filled with Pagan symbolism is this popular. I assumed this was more of an underground fascination. I guess there are more people seeking higher truths than I thought.

The movie has slow parts and gets real heady for a bit. But I liked the slow parts and wouldn't have minded more heady scenes. The dialogue is perfect.

I look forward to hearing what you guys think of it.

Saw the movie last night - brilliant !
Very very scary at times.
I agree that the two and a half hours was gone in a flash - didn't find it slow at all - just enough time to catch your breath................

Get out there and see it expatees - enjoy

I didn't get a few parts of the story. I should have read the book. I'm usually a purest at these things. I wasn't sure if Tom Hanks was playing a skeptic or not.

well the movie is alright, can't beat the book though. they were trying to squeeze in all the storyline which i thought made the pace somewhat uneven. the movie would be better enjoyed by non-readers who do not already know the plots & twists.

I didn't like it all that much... the best part of the book was the explanations and everything, which was missing in the movie.

Just finished the book, looking forward to the movie. Not sure if reading the book first will enhance or deplete the movie for me.

The book doesn't DEBUNK anything. It simply attacks some Christians belief that Christ never married. I am not going to say that I believe he did or didn't, but anyone claiming to believe in Christ should recognize that he lived a pretty NORMAL human life up to the point he began his ministry. Would it be so hard to believe that he married and live the life of a carpenter before all those events.

I read in the Western media that the Chinese people didn't understand the whole movie at all. And that they were all leaving the theater in the middle of the movie. Is that true?

Saw it yesterday and there was no one leaving the theatre room in UMe (Xin Tian DI0 which we were in. I enjoyed the film and it kept very much on the lines of the book. Yes parts were missing but condensing a novel down to a two hour film is never going to be easy.

Mrs SC (She Who Must Be Obeyed) had read the Chinese translation and said she was glad she did as she could understand the film better.

I saw it today. It's OK, but not great. I didn't think Tom Hanks was all that good. He seemed wooden in most of it. A couple of his "really serious" scenes made me want to laugh.

I don't understand the hoopla within the church about the story. It's just a novel! People take this crap way too seriously.

I watched in Xin Tian Di last night and I thought it were excellent.

I think there's a lot of truth in it but one can see how conservative groups like Opus Dei and the Church would be pissed off about it. They are not the most open minded or self-critical people in the world....

I thought the Chinese Church banned it.

Oh well.

Mission Impossible 3 is banned because it shows images of Shanghai in a bad light; washing hanging out of windows, spitting, etc.

consider that the chinese could not practice religion for a long time, also most the chinese are not in christian faith, why would they ban it?

churches all over the world wants to ban it. so far, korea and thailand in asia are not showing the movie. but in china, it is the government as the "decider" to ban it or not.

but it is just a movie that raises the argument and doubts in many things. at least it is entertaining to me.

I read the book but havn't seen the movie, and not intend to. Just can't link Audrey Tautou with Sophie, though I quite like her in her other movies.
