The difference between residence permit and work permit

Postby fl223 » Sat Apr 29, 2006 7:04 am

Currently, I have a residence permit for Foreigner in PRC, which is a sticker on my passport.

I went to HSBC to try and get my money transfered, and they said that I needed a work visa.

Doesn't the residence permit act as a work visa?????
Please help

years ago, they were two different things but generally one was required to get the other. there used to be books for each which were issued by the government. i believe that the books aren't used any longer (not sure); however, if you have a Z visa, that is the work visa. in order to be issued the Z visa, you will have had to have the work permit issued.

i heard recently that banking laws were revised for F visa holders (business visas) but am unaware of the details.

Maybe they're asking for your "Alien Employment Permit"?
(A little, dark red, passport like book.)

Yes, I have a residence permit in my passport, and a dark red book which is a 'work permit' (perhaps called a alien employment permit, but I'm to lazy to go see what the actual name on the book is right now)

I'm no expert but I believe....
that when you get your residence permit
your Z visa is cancelled and you then
need to apply for the Alien Employment Permit.

That's how it worked for me anyways...

Do you have the alien employment permit?

The resident visa is not a work visa. You must have a company apply for you to get one. Hotsun visas does this. Email Dave at dragond69@hotmail.com
