To respond to the person who asked how I got into chewing tobacco..
First, what I do is actually called "dip" which is slightly different than chewing tobacco. Chewing tobacco looks like Big League Chew -- big long strands of tobacco that you stick in your cheek. Dip, on the other hand, is much finer and is placed between your lower lip and your teeth. It bsaically sits there and you spit for awhile until it loses its flavor.
How'd I get into it? In high school (New Jersey -- not the south), I played soccer and lacrosse. I smoked a bit, and so during soccer/lacrosse season I would trade cigarettes for dip. Fast forward 8 years or so and I still dip because it's much more convenient than smoking a lot of the time (i.e. I can dip in my office or in my hotel room, but I can't smoke!). I just associate long periods of me being by myself (long car rides, airplane rides, watching a movie, etc.) with dipping and it is hard to mentally break those associations to quit. It's a horrible habit, but it's my habit =). People are generally much more disgusted by dip than smoke, for what it's worth.
