Which is the best bus station to depart to Nantong to arrive as early in the AM as possible? How long does the trip take, considering the new bridge opening? Do I need to purchase tickets in advance? THanks.

The first bus from Shanghai stadium (Xu Jia Hui) leaves at 8.05 and you'll arrive at Nantong hotel around 10.

The buses from the Train Station North Square Long Distance bus station leave earlier and you don't normally need to buy a ticket in advance.

Which part of Nantong? The buses pass through the development zone so if you need to go there tell the driver and he'll stop for you in the zone before you get to the city.

If you are going to the city or south of Nantong and you get the bus from the train station, I'd recommend you get off when the bus stops on Hong Qiao Lu and get a taxi from there. The final stop at the bus station is convenient for north of the city.

Beware the taxi drivers at the bus station - they're as thick as 3 short planks and won't take you anywhere that's within a 10 minute taxi ride. They just stare at you blankly if you want to go anywhere close. Most of them queue all day for that one jackpot fare. Thick, just thick.
