Trip to Beijing and Xi An

Postby progolferyo » Tue Apr 01, 2008 10:48 am

Hi,

I live in Shanghai and I am trying to arrange for my parents to come to China for traveling. They are in their mid 50's, somewhat experience travelers and they would like to find a good quality tour that takes them to Beijing and Xi An.

I figured since I am in Shanghai already, it might be better (and cheaper) if I found them the tour package but apparently this is not as easy as I thought.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to look for this? Here are some more details about what they want:

- 5-7 days
- go to beijing and xi an only (they want me to show them around shanghai)
- all-inclusive (food, hotel, transportation)
- they don't care about how they go from beijing to xi an (train or plane)

Please let me know if you have any suggestions or agencies that I can get in contact with. Thanks

You may try www.ctrip.com for more information, as i just orderd one tour package to Huangshan Mountain which included bus and hotel expense. Otherwise you also can visit some local travel agancies, it seems the Spring Travel in People Square is pretty popular.

The mrs and I are planning a trip up to Beijing and Xi'an in May.

Doing everything ourselves though, and its not all that much trouble, but then again my wife is Chinese.

The hotel prices have gone up a hell of a lot, but, some motels are still pretty reasonable (we're going with one called Motel 7 or something like that, can't remember), clean, hassle-free.

We'll be getting a soft-sleeper train to BJ from Shanghai (or Hangzhou). Much cheaper than the plane.

Yah that sounds great. For me that would be a good solution, but they are more looking for a tour and they probably would want more of a package deal.

The CTRIP stuff looks good but a lot of it is for Chinese people, so the foreign stuff is really limited.

This might help a bit http://www.grayline.com/Grayline/destin ... beijing.go
I have used these guys in both Beijing and Xian. I organised hotels and flights through elong.net and then used grayline to guide me around the cities. This was about 2 years ago and it worked beautifully. Go for the private car then you dont have to visit the silk and jade factories that you would get stuck with on a bus tour. Hope it helps
