Truffle oil?

Where can I find this? I think City Super in IFC carries some options. Anywhere else?

Maybe Olé in Xujiahui has it, but they are all the 'truffle flavored' olive oil, which is just chemically flavored to simulate the truffle scent. I have a bottle with actual truffle chunks in the oil brought from TW; I have not seen this type in SH.

Curious, what are you looking to make? A rissotto?

Yes, looking for the real deal - not a simulation. Looking to make various pastas (namely rissotto), and maybe a few drops here and there on stuff like mashed potatoes, mac 'n cheese, etc.

Try it on pork chops before the sage and a touch on while broiling or grilling. Same with lamb.

I also like to sprinkle on pizza then pop it in the oven a bit. Try it in a vinaigrette. Try it in any savory gravy. Or sautéed mushrooms over a quality ribeye or loco moco. One of my favorites is add it in to handmade blue cheese stuffed olives used for dirty martinis. Reminds me, running low.

If you know anyone coming to Sh from Taipei have them bring you a bottle from Maison de la Truffe:

On top of fresh truffles, they also have other stuff like truffle salt, truffle butter, etc.

Speaking of martinis, just had an inspiration to try it in a wasabi root, truffle oil infused belvedere.

One of these days I'm going to try infusing vodka with juniper and making a crazy ass Martini out of it.
Naturally, I finished my set. . .

Try the legendary Avocado Lady on Wulumuqi Lu. No jokin'. A friend got a bottle there at Christmas time, we had some in our mashed potatoes for Christmas dinner. Deeelish.
Cack, my blog is buggered.

Klick - my mind wandered there for a second as we frequent her market at least once or twice per week. I'll look for it next time. Do you know the brand she carries? Real stuff or a simulation?

Kief - Yup, will do. If not Taipei, then the good ol' US of A...

Nohow - We need to hang out. Seriously!

You know I didn't look at the bottle all that carefully; it was a friend who lives near the shop that brought it for the big communal meal. Al I can say is, damn good potatoes.

www.fieldschina.com has a fair range of truffle stuff in at the minute, including oils.
