hello,
I was wondering if anyone can give me some tips as to what my GF and I can watch out for when applying for a u.s travel visa. My Gf currently is employed as an accountant and is wanting to move abroad to the U.S for further study. This cristmas she is planning on making a trip to the U.S to visit some schools already, and meet with some admission officers.
If Anyone has informations as to what she and I might prepare prior to her having an interview at the U.S consulate please let me know. I know that it is hard to obtain a travel visa for chinese especially for chinese girls , but she is intending to return and can show financial ties as well as a stable job in shanghai. She is intending to move to U.S for furthr studies eventually but for now she first needs to complete her bachelors degree in accounting

Any information or own prior experience is greatly apprciated

just send me an e-mail at : m_melchiors@hotmail.com

The American bf or an account job seemed not enough to domanstrate her strong ties in China or warrant an return upon completion of her proposed trip. It's an odd issue. You better talk staffs at US Consulate during citizen hours for what you said here and let them to advise you on the issue.

It is unfortunate, but it is true; it will be almost impossible for your girlfriend to get a travel visa for the US. Save yourself some trouble.

My wife (Chinese) and I tried to get a visa for her to travel and visit my parents in the States. We had been married for several months at the time, were both employed, and owned property. She was denied the visa as a "flight risk". We have since applied for a green card, which, oddly enough, is easier for my wife to get than a travel visa.

It's true...Peter, I've heard a few persons encountered exact siuations. I was wondering your wife may have a better chance to get a tourist visa(non-immigrant) if her green card petition was approved.

I would agree with everyone's comments above. The first time I was here in Beijing I tried to get a travel visa for my girlfriend, who happens to be Korean, and we were flat out denied. No real reason was given for her being denied. I asked what we should do and the lady said to apply in Korea or try again in Beijing and hope we got a different person that was more flexible. We ended up getting it in Korea without a problem. Unfortunately you don't have that alternative but in essence save yourself the time and the headache of getting denied. It just pisses you off and makes you extremely frustrated.
