Urgent- Chinese dentist needed

Postby teanosugar » Tue Feb 07, 2006 5:10 pm

The crown on my front tooth has broken and so I need some information pretty quickly.

I have all the addresses of the expat-targeted clinics such as CIDI, Worldlink, etc, what I need to know is where do local Chinese people go to the dentist? I mean someone said go to a hospital so I phoned Huashan hospital, they said they don't have any dentist there. I just need to know the name of somewhere with a dentist.

I actually posted this question before but now the crown is broken I look scary and am hiding from everyone! I really, really need to know, where are Chinese people going to the dentist to get this kind of work done? Because I don't see why I should pay 5-7000 for each crown if it can be done in a local dentist for less. Since I will have two, it is a total of 14,000 yuan...a lot of money (for me).

So PLEASE help...
I need to have something done tomorrow!

(Well, I won't be buying French bread from Carrefour again... From now on only soft sugary Asian bread for me.)

I got my crown (porcelain ones) done at Arrail Dental in Times Square, Pudong. My memory fails me but I think I paid about 1600 yuan for each crown. They have a few other branches in Puxi as I have seen their ads in the newspaper. I think it is reasonably priced, the place is new and equipment is clean plus the dentists speak English. I did two crowns and am planning to go back to get more work done on my wisdom tooth.

Thanks, that sounds more affordable. Is the crown translucent at the bottom like a real tooth? One very expensive clinic here which shall remain nameless showed me a model of the crown they were proposing at 7000 RMB, it didn't even have that "translucent" effect of real teeth, which even the CHEAPEST National Health Care crown would have in the UK. That is why I will not pay 14000 for two crowns which I doubt are really top quality. I absolutely refuse (unless I don't find somewhere better before tomorrow...haha).

*Just edited post for bad spelling...what is up with me today?

I just had my crown done yesturday at arrial dentist along Huai Hai Lu. They are brilliant... speak english perfectly and are so friendly... especially when I was freaking out about the needle. The tooth looks awsome and they cleaned my teeth and they look spectacular... rave rave rave... see if you can get Jenny Jia to do it. Ph 5396-6538 Lippo Plaza 222 huai hai lu... second floor. The receptionist with the lovely hair is really sweet too! Cost me about $400AU... which is about 2400RMb but I had to get a temp cap... you may not need that. They will give you a choice... good luck

Hmm...I really don't know about the translucent bottom bit but all I can say is that they look very real and er...blend well into my gums. Is that any help?

The dentist was brilliant as he explained every step of the way what he was doing and told me all my options and the pros and cons of them. I decided on gold fillings and porcelain crowns as a compromise out of all the options. Even the temporary tooth he did for me while I was waiting for my crown to be ready was brilliantly real and comfortable.

OK, the translucent bit sounds strange, it just means that cheaper crowns are solid and opaque, whereas good ones are ever so slightly translucent as are real teeth. It only matters for front teeth that you can see. If yours are front teeth, you can tell by pressing you tongue behing the tooth, you should be able to see something, like a real tooth.

I might sound fussy but it is important to me, I had a scooter accident and ruined my teeth, I used to have perfect teeth and I need them to look perfect-ish for my self-confidence.

I have probably been spoilt in England, I have had treatment from leading dentists using the best techniques available anywhere...Now my expectations are set very high.

Ah, mine were both molars, so I guess the translucent quality you are looking for might not be evident to me.

Why don't you go and take a look, especially since you know what you looking for.

I have seen too many badly done front teeth on a lot of locals so I can understand your concern. In this case, you probably do pay for what you get. Let's hope other people in the forum might know where to get the type you are looking for at an affordable price.

Thank you.

I will go and see what materials they are offering. Actually, I don't mind if their crowns are not the best, as long as they are not charging the earth, if you see what I mean. The place I went before was charging 7000 for something below standard.

I am still wondering where do Shanghainese people go to the dentist?

Someone mentioned Zhong Shan Yi Yuan in another post, has anyone been there? There website doesn't mention a dental section.

yorkdent - I see you have been very very busy searching the forums. I guess you didn't notice or care this topic is over 2 years old.

teanosugar, if your tooth is still needing work after two years may I suggest ARRAIL Dental?

They have my personal endorsement I have gone to them for many years - they are extremely good at reasonable price!
