There won't be many choices with that budget.

not many doesn't mean no choice
You might be surprised to see that for that price you can really find a nice appartment, very clean, with ADSL, Satellite TV, newly furnished located near a subway station...
As I said in an other thread you guys are paying way too much for your place.

keep checking the classifieds and yes the deals are out there, but you have to be in ther right place at the right time. You have to find an agent willing to deal with the 3000RMB range.. many that post on this site do not. One person I know in the real estate market say the good deals ( nice AND also cheap) they for low budget often go the same day they get them. So you have to look alot and be in the right place at the right time.

A local Chinese agent will be more likely to deal with the 3000 rmb price range. Just bring a Chinese friend with you to translate.
As Michael said just a look at the classifieds will help. Also keep in mind that these offers are posted by Chinese on Expat websites which means that the price is "Expat price". So when you see 3500 rmb you can bargain to get the "Chinese price".
And talk to collegues and friends. One may be moving out soon.
In the last 4 days I've visited a couples of very nice appartments. Have not decided yet. Still keeping options open by visiting more.
Cheap and Nice appartments do exist !
But yes you have to be quick to decide as they don't stay available for long...
