Vaccination for baby

Postby Insider » Mon Sep 04, 2006 10:55 am

Hello,
I am looking for a children's hospital , there is a vaccination due for my friend's baby this month. World Link is very expensive which we can't afford, pls advise any other Children's hospital where there are Eng.speaking doctors and can get imported vaccines.
Thanks

Hi

U can try Shanghai United as their vaccines are imported from Hong Kong as compared to WorldLink which are from UK. Yes and WorldLink charges in Sterling Pounds. However, all the hospitals here will charge a shipment fee. So it is advisable to order all vaccinations at one time to save on the shipment fee. The prices of the vaccination are not inclusive of the doctor's consultation fee.

Good luck.

Cheers!

The Worldlink at DanShui Lu (Xintiandi) ordered vaccines for my daughter from Singapore so maybe a bit cheaper then from the UK. But you do have to pay for special courier fees.

Something for your friend to consider for the future is to bring the vaccines with her when she next goes home or have someone bring it up. We got my mother-in-law to bring the vaccines for my son from France when she came to visit, so we saved a bit there.

I would be interested in hearing of ANY Chinese hospital that will import foreign vaccines. It is not in their culture to do so and I believe is illegal.
Its simple Chinese hospitals, Chinese drugs: Western hospitals Western drugs.

I compared the prices for vaccines (one-in-five) of Worldlink and SUF: SUF was more expensive. They both insisted on a foreign credit card which is difficult to manage if you're paid in RMB.

We are considering going to Fudan hospital rather than a western hospital due to cost - is there any real drawbacks to using a locally manufactured vaccine as opposed to an imported one -(assuming that going to a reputable hospital in shanghai is enough to avoid fake/bad vaccination fiascos in the you read about in the china daily every so often!!)

I thought Polio vaccine was 2 drops orally ?

Had a booster of that + Tetanus shot (free) before I came here. Had to pay for the Havrix (Hepatitis shots) though.

These prices seem (polite cough) rather expensive....

Polio vaccine can be given oral or injectable. Most countries have switched to injectable since the oral one contains weakened virus rather than outright killed virus (as in the injectable). Thus with the oral version there is a small risk of getting a case of polio from the virus.

Those prices for vaccines seem about right considering people are having them imported from overseas. People can always opt for domestically produced vaccines.

Maestro, you are right and I was incorrect.

" These prices seem (polite cough) rather expensive.... "
...."imported from overseas"....

Thanks for warning others.
