Though I don't think the gov has done a lot behind this... it has more to do with people's traditional concept and cultures non?
If you're dating a Chinese girl who falls into a "left-0ver" age range, does she feel pressure or she's ok with it ? Or perhaps girls who are willing to go out with Westerners have learnt to ignore the discrimination from society?

If I have to choose between getting nothing and banging a lady in her mid to late 30's, well I am gonna get it in.

In general, for Asians, women are simply more physically attractive then men.
The leftover women think the leftover guys are too ugly, the leftover men think the leftover women are too old. Seems like pickiness on both sides, really.
That said, the age discrimination towards Chinese women is indeed stupid.

Women are boring until they start to figure out who they are and what THEY want in their lives. In China, that doesn't seem to happen until they're in their 30s, but of course there are exceptions.

Does anybody really care what Chinese girls think? Don't you Westerners treat them as trash anyways?

I've never seen a country with such a big problem with "left behind" women as China.
Women who are 25 and unmarried think their "best before date" has been passed, and they have to marry the guy they're with NOW, no matter how unsuitable he may be.
Bob, I just don't see that in any great numbers in developed countries. This "left behind" idea can only exist in a country in which women are treated as second-class citizens, and valued only for their bodies, and not their minds. It's very oppressive and demeaning. I think it's a major reason why so many young Chinese women never develop their minds, or perhaps just pretend to be stupid. It's like America in the 1950s.

what's your point here?
"left over" is a WRONG word, with the assumption that everybody should get married at certain age, but it's not true. Marriage is an option, not a must. Without this assumption, the term shall not exist at all. In civilized country women are not called "left over".
Divorce rate is a certain sign of progress, in my opinion. People have the right to pursue happiness, marriage shall not stop them from doing so.
