What I LOVE about Shanghai

Postby JamesLeeWhite » Fri Feb 12, 2010 1:40 am

As the title says...

what do you love about the shanghai?

i'm learning what i can before i go. my last question provoked some negative comments (though in fairness that is what i asked for) so now i'd like to hear the positives...

food (yum),
Some really interesting things and some really nice things. When you go home you can tell your friends all the strange things you have eaten and gross them out. The shops here stay open really late so you can get food at all hours. KFC and McDonalds delivers.

man, other than "hater" i don't know how to describe uncle ohshit, really

believe me, it really does not bother me a bit, if you are trashing shanghai or china in general. i just think you spend too much time being negative.

i mean every chance you get, you spit out negativity. anyone who's been here for awhile already knew your opinion and where you stand on china issue. it's ok to take a rest, once a while, really!

i still believe that, you are a very nice person in life. this is all just your online personality. you can not help it. i don't know how much pleasure you get out of it, but IMHO, if you just use this dedication on something else, it would have done you good already.

I like the freedom I have here; cheap taxis, great metro system. Eating out is cheap too so I never have to cook. Shops are open late and every day of the week (where I am from everything is closed on Sunday, Saturday everything closes at 17:00 and during the week at 18:00).

I also like all the extra money I get for working here.

Definitely not 'in love' with Shanghai - do you ever get that way?

I like the conveniences it has to offer.

hehe, the hustle, and the dynamic,

have you ever, really walked out on a sunday morning, say 9, 10am and see all the people in the cars, and bikes hurrying from one place to another?

Everybody is out there hustling 24/7, if I say they have purpose, some might hate on me now.
But I think so, back home, you see the same people, sitting on the same bench, at the same bar, mon-sun, since 2002....

I love how everything is always in motion here, it's motivational, and inspiring.

It's the busiest place I've ever lived and I love it.

David Byrne from Talking Heads used to stare out his window in New York for inspiration for writing music. I stare out the window looking over XJH and it's like watching Metropolis in ultra-vision at double speed.
