Four Lions - 4/5

A comedy about a group of young Muslim men living in Sheffield who become radicalised and decide to become suicide bombers.

Haven't laughed this much in a long time...

The Expendables. A waste of time I actually fell asleep during the last bit when they were raiding the island.

Salt. Pretty good, Angelina is still as hot as ever and the action wasn't half bad.

Solid and suspenseful political thriller from Roman Polanski, but compared to the four fine principals, Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Olivia Williams, and Kim Cattrall, it's Eli Wallach, age 94, in a three minute scene, who delivers a model lesson in the difference between the ART of acting and the superficially "good performance" that's become the coin of the realm .

What other actors would you place in the same category as Eli Wallach?

I thought The Ghost Writer was pretty good. People compared it to RP's Ninth Gate, which I watched last night. It's strange how obvious it was the same director. Both movies are very good, but have a sort of HBO movie feel to them. Like the tension falls just short of satisfying.

Also rewatched the first Bourne movie a couple nights back. I was all excited to watch it because I remember it being really cool. Must be getting cynical these days. I didn't like it at all.

Kairo (3.5/5) - make sure to watch it alone, after midnight, lights out.
Harry Brown (3/5) - solid alternative to Gran Torino
Kick Ass (2.5/5) - was going nowhere until Cage & daughter kicked in
Shutter Island (3/5) - saw 'it' coming from about 1/3 of the way through.

I grabbed the movies that were new that I hadn't seen today even with no name actors and bad titles. I watched the absolute worst movie called " The Bear" that looks like it was filmed on a home video camera. I was suprised they could afford a real bear.

0/5 but a laugh for being so bad.

second movie is mcglubin a takeoff of Mcgiver and it is so bad I had to stop watching it.

Glengarry Glen Ross (3.5/5) - loved the style, the acting, Pacino, the theme, but fell a bit short on the conclusion.

The Road (3/5) - good effort, some fantastic cinematography/special effects, decent story, but just not quite enough... something. And I wish Mortenson would play another role other than the concerned father/hero, it's getting a touch old.

"Bigger Than Life"

A masterpiece. Nicholas Ray's exposé of the underbelly of the American middle class finally gets its due on dvd. James Mason plays Ed Avery, a conscientious school teacher, family man, and good guy until he becomes addicted to cortisone and turns into a megalomaniacal psychopath ("God was wrong!"). In many ways a precursor to "Blue Velvet," and just as unnerving.

Robin Hood 4/5
This last remake with Russel Crowe is Briliant.
Storyline is different from the Robin Hood made before, but definitely well scripted.
Action scenes are great (Ridley Scott), though there are scenes that Crowe sound like the gladiator...hehehe
I would say, a must see movie,

Bladerunner (2/5) - This might have been good at some point in its life, but I fail to see what any of the fuss is about, and I do like my sci-fi. The main redeeming factor is the fantastically detailed and atmospheric setting, sheer brilliance.

watched "downstream" for 20 minutes today. It is like they just copied the plot from that Denzil Washington movie about life after the collapse called "the book of Eli" When movies are 5 quai one tends to end up with a few duds and downstream is very much a 0/10.

I saw Repo men the other day. The repossessing of artificial organs I thought was a bit of a stretch, but the underlying theme of the film as well as a cool twist definitely make it worth watching. 3.5/5

I download my movies so i get them for free :-D

Expendables (3\5) is a flash back to the 80's\90's style action movies, Sly, Dolf and Arnie (cameo) are just too old. I wonder when a movie with Jean Claude Van Dam and Steven Segal will be coming out

Grown ups (3\5) with the cast I was hoping for more laughs but there are some funny moments. I wouldn't got to the theater to watch it but for 5 kuai DVD it's worth it.

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid"

I really enjoyed it. Really funny stuff. Family-friendly too. It got a lot of negative reviews online about how the book was better- but if you aren't infatuated with the book, I'm sure you'll like the film.

Rustler's Rhapsody

Best cowboy western comedy ever. (It's kind of sad that I have to specify "cowboy western" vs. "western culture" western. I've confused so many people while trying to talk about the genre of western films)
