What to do on a Weekend in Shanghai?

Postby blochga » Thu Sep 09, 2004 5:25 am

I'm going to be in Shanghai for 2 days (over a weekend) in Mid-October. What should be on my must see/must do list for the trip? I've never been here before.

Thanks for the insights!

Cultural/Historical
Yu Garden (shopping and a lovely garden; note... very crowded)
Jade Budha Temple
Xin Tian Di (renovated trendy area with lots of restaurants but also has some historical signifigance)
Orient Pearl Tower (a tv tower but can go to the top and see the views)
Nanjing Pedestrian Street (very crowded, many domestic tourists go here)
The Bund (waterfront, nice walk along the water)
Shanghai Museum - an excellent museum
Shanghai Art Museum - also quite good

Shopping
Xiang Yang Market - large open air market that offers clothes and other things
Nanjing West Road - really just a bunch of malls and the like. Many upscale shops but no real discounts
Dong Jia Du fabric market - only if you have an interest

Entertainment
Acrobat Show - can see at Shanghai Centre

Nightlife/Dining
Too many to list ... depends on your interests and the type of food you would like. You will be here during hairy crab season, which is a SH speciality. You may wish to try that.

Have fun!
