It is seriously a yellow colour outside and has been for two days now... I dont think I want to know what lovely things we are breathing in out there...

It's a chemical released by the governmentation that makes you want to watch the Olympics.

its just so the locals know that the air is still there...

they pushed all the smog away from Beijing so we all have to sit in this pea soup for awhile
6 years of experiences, good, bad ugly... and survived.

Every once in a while there are really nasty days, just stay inside and it will pass when the winds pick up. And be careful not to let your kids outside or they'll end up small and undersized like the 16 year olds on the Chinese "women's" gymnastics team.

I thought that All girl gymnasts are undersized..look at Nadia.

Some huge constructions are going these days in Shanghai. Hongqiao Airport area is expanding with many of the surrounding old buildings totally demolished for the past months. So a huge area with dry dirt is probably contributing to this sandy air. It doesn't help with huge trucks carrying loads of soil at night, and dirtying the roads.

I haven't noticed it. Been raining hard here the last couple days in Nanhui.

Actually, i thought the air up in Beijing was pretty nasty during the first few days of opening. Back in Shanghai now and its not much better.

Sad thing is...this is normal
Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.....Dave Barry

I have lived here long enough to know that it can be quite normal - my problem is that I think I had been lulled into a false sense of security because it has been so nice for such a long time...

I still do like the conspiracy theory of Beijing getting rid of all their bad air while the olympics are going on... maybe they have bought some seriously huge industrial fans to blow all their crap this way :-)
