probably not readily available.

vacuums are a miniscule industry in china; the pricier ones will be difficult to find. if you need one, probably best to bring from europe, japan or australia.

I have seen them in Suning but the prices are way over those back home.

Actually vacuum cleaners is a big indusrty in China. Around Shanghai and in Shanghai there are over 50 producers. Only sales in China are still relativally low. I have never seen a Dyson here, but why would you buy a Dyson. They are over expensive and not very durable. If you want a bag less vacuum cleaner, both Philips and Electrolux make several types of bag less cleaners. These range from agout RMB 750 to 3000; the expensive ones of course being more convenient. These are not easy to find, but I heve seen them in department stores. Still, if you have a chance to bring them in from Europe, they will be cheaper there.

Dyson moved production from the UK to China so they will probably be available somewhere.

I don't know if you care, but the Dyson didn't do so well in Consumer Reports. You might just get something cheaper...

What report was this?

The use of centrifugals was at the time, revolutionary, and rumour has it they have enough suction to remove a brown polyester suit from a migrant worker at a distance of 10 metres.

They're available here, but not cheap.

Looking at 3500 - 4500 for the DC24 (5-600$!)

If you get a chinese copy of the same tech, its about 700rmb. eg http://item.taobao.com/auction/item_det ... dfb1ada788

Suggest also look for the Hoover Whisper - reviews say its similar
http://www.fatwallet.com/blog/hoover-wh ... son-clone/

and you can find that puppy here for 600-800rmb also.

Suggest Taobao for searching for that kind of thing for rough pricing, then check guomai/sunning websites for proper retailers.

Update on this, I bought the Hoover Whisper on Taobao for 600rmb, which as I asked for 220v pretty please with sugar on... comes from UK (has the UK/HK Style big plug).

Works well. Seems to suck quite a lot (of stuff off the carpet). Considering my last 3 died due to construction worker abuse, I'll see how this one fairs.

Looks to be this model here - http://www.hoover.co.uk/Product.aspx?Product=379 (which seems to be the same (or similar enough to the Whisper in .US)

Its the same tech as the older dyson models as stated above (this is corroborated in enough other vacuum forums). Given the price, I'm happy. Only double what my last one cost, and this one looks far more pimp ;)

Next on the agenda, a coffee machine for the office (probably a nespresso)!

The official website says it is not available. Has anyone found the genuine Dyson product in Shanghai (vacuum cleaner and air multiplier?)
thanks
