I did Indian Kitchen also. It was good, but something bad was in it as it all came back up around 3:30 this morning.
Jeannie, do you know what the deal is with the 30 rmb service charge?

my DH & i felt that too...think must be for that indian chefs performing the prata-tossing in the kitchen downstairs. but i kow i won't be going back there again

I was also at Bubba's last night... great food. Images of the games were a little pixelated but, were at least in real time [no jerky pausing, etc.]

went by Cotton's to check out their BBQ. Grilled meats and burgers type...loved it, and for 88rmb all you can eat? It was a deal.

Nice garden setting and some good freinds. Perfect.

Castle Oktober- happy hour 50% off drinks and a buffet spread on grilled meats at 128RMB.
Nice garden for these balmy evenings and esp. good service (brought glasses of water without even being asked)
Tournedos Rossini was nice but a little salty. Well-presented plates all round- good selection on menu.
A bit pricey on ala carte, but it got the buck.

so the bastards relaunched happy hour AFTER our event there huh? What kind of greedy management rescinds a happy hour special just because there are actually many customers there. Would have been a good place had they not been so greedy... Sorry, but boycott of Oktober continues.

We went to O'Malleys for the BBQ and free flow beer [Thanks to the boys from JustBeer.cn - over 70 different types. WOW!] from 4:00pm onwards. I thought it was good value at 200rmb - lots of meat and lots of beer. Ms. GeoffOz [She's been promoted to this title recently] particularly enjoyed the Raspberry beer [It's actually quite nice but not exactly my preferred brew].

We finished off by going upstairs to watch the Monza F1.

We went to 1221 on Saturday night. Had to book though, can get quite busy especially on a Saturday night. We had a starter [Some jelly fish thingo which Ms. GeoffOz introduced me to] followed by MaPo ToFu [One of my favourites], Spicy Chicken with Peanuts and a very nice Fish Soup. A bottle of fruity, peppery Shiraz Cabernet from Oz finished it all nicely. The two of us finished the lot feeling quite content.

Oh, BTW, the address is 1221 The Dining Room, 1221 Yan An Xi Lu [b/w Pan Yu Lu & Ding Xi Lu]. I have been there several times. It's a local for me but that is not the only reason I keep going back.

Yes, Not been back since either, What the place needs is a great manager/owner who has a clue about keeping customers and is in for the long haul!

Shame cos' its a lovely beer garden too, imagine it as a free house :shock:

Looked a real promising place when it first opened, great location and outside space, but they screwed the beer, and then a large bunch of us SH-Expat members over a BBQ( going for the easy money) because they were unexpectedly full!

Make your own decision about the place, but it needs a massive rethink by the owners/manager to get the trust back!

"Little Chicago" is the nickname a group of our friends and us have given to my rooftop deck. It has a big grill, great ambiance and lighting and a great skyline view of the city. We host several dinner parties and get-togethers without knowing the difference you'd swear you were in downtown Chicago - hence the name.

Food is homemade [obviously lots of imported stuff], beer is COLD and is relaxing and fun.

The way it works is, I provide the hardware: grill, 120" projection 1080p tv, deck, etc. Visitors supply the brats. Home team supplies the beer.

Had stuffed peppers at home with small tossed salad & some bread from Paul. No they are the best place in town but I like the olive rolls.

Tried the Indian Buffet at Punjabi, 85 RMB with free flow of beer (tsingtao)
- the garlic nan was so so
- the vegetable curry with tofu was good
- The buttered chicken was very good
- The tandoori mix (chicken, lamb) was Ok
- The beef cury was actually good
did not try the saffron rice as the nan was already filling

Went to Paulaner (Fen Yang Lu).

Massive pork knuckle, mixed sausage platter, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, and many tall lagers.

If you haven't been on the tenth of the month I reccomend going. 50% off all F & B is a hell of an anniversary promotion.
