Hi all, I recently took a trip to Hong Kong and enjoyed walking round the electrical markets. Is there any thing like that in Shanghai?? I know most of the earphones for sale in Hong Kong are fake but I have fund some fake earphones sound quite good so not bothered if they aren't real.

I'm after Bose, Monster, Seinhisser or Shure Earphones, either real or good quality copies. I found some in Best Buy in The Super Mall, but they were more expensive than in UK!!..

Any tips on where to buy real ones at a good price or copies would be appreciated.

There is a big electronic market/shops somewhere on Huaihai Lu.
I am pretty sure they also have headphones.

You are not in the **** west anymore... Pay what it cost in Shanghai, or buy the **** at home ffs...

Modern Electronics City (I think) on XiangYang Lu / Fuxing Lu. Also head to XuJiaHui - there is a best buy there but right next door you've got Metro City which is pretty good. Happy hunting!

There is a Bose store in Metro City...I think the 4th level across the hallway from the bookstore.

Hey, as Snuden noted, see the big electronics store on Huai Hai (Media Mrkt), at the intersection with sinan lu. This place is AMAZING. I hate to say it, but it puts Best Buy to shame. They don't sell knockoffs, but their selection is huge and pricing runs from entry level local to top of the line. Well worth the trip.

I second everything emerson said. Great place.

The range of headphones from DR DRE (hip hop artist), apparently are meant too be really good but i believe they are pricey too.

I second Modern Electronics City. Got some Monster inner-earphones on 2/F there. Great sound but a little uncomfortable after extended use (eg a long plane flight). Price was lower than on Amazon. I even went back and had the same shop fix my Ipod, which had a loose earphone socket. The good thing about the cybermalls is that you can test out the earphones, but you have to watch out for fakes. The normal electronics shops usually have a limited selection to try out and ask (much) higher prices...

BTW just in case you're after noise-cancelling headphones, I recently lost my Sennheisers (actually left them on the plane, of course...) and replaced them with a new pair of AKGs.

The AKG are much better. Noise cancellation about the same (great for the low-end jet engine rumble, not so good for voices) but the audio is way better, with a decent bass end which the Sennies badly lack. Also the padding on the actual earpieces seems to seal better against my ears - overall, better build quality, more solid, better sound on the AKGs. They fold into a slightly larger case than the Sennies but again, the case is better-made.

Price was precisely the same as the current model Sennies (which admittedly may be better than the ones I lost, which were about six months old and which I bought as a run-out special). I bought the AKGs at Zürich Airport so I probably paid way too much, but hey, I was about to get on an 11 hour flight...

I also have the Beats Tour (the in ear model). They're good for the music they're made for - pop and hip hop music. I was trying to decide between these and the Klipsch S4i but I couldn't find the Klipsch earphones anywhere and I wasn't sure that they would be real, so I eventually settled on the Beats and bought them from the Apple store.

I would recommend anything from Klipsch or Sennheiser. Although I do own a Monster product, they are generally overpriced (which the Beats are). The Turbines are good models, but watch out for fakes here.

I tried out the Monster noise-cancelling headphones and thought they sounded pretty good - quite clear separation of the various parts, decent range. They are quite shiny and noticeable, however, and I didn't thoroughly test the noice-cancelling capability. They were asking about RMB1000.

I would suggest trying out different brands and comparing them across the same set of reference tracks. They have different characteristics. It is very much down to personal taste. For instance, I felt Sennheiser had a closed sound versus Beats Tour or Ultimate Ears. Shure has a comparatively weak bass but made vocals and acoutics sound amazing. Audio Technica has a pleasant, warm sound though somewhat muffled. It also depends on which ear tips are used - and you want to make sure you can get a good, comfortable fit. Try before you buy!

Whatever you end up with make sure you let us know and give us some feedback on others you compared.

Believe it or not, these headphones sound amazing and are really cheap compared to the Dre beats etc.

I own a pair of bose noise cancelling and I tried these on and was blown away. They are not noise cancelling, but read the reviews and then find a pair.

You can try Sundan Pulse at Kerry Parkside in Pudong. They are located B1 (B101-B102) right at the entrance of the Metro Line 7. I got Klipsch S4i there for 799RMB, I think they also have Skullcandy (but not 100% sure). There is also the tech shop on Wujiang Lu that sells high quality earphones\headphones like Shure.
