i saw the fondue sets for sale at City Plaza in the kitchen ware section. Don't think any restaurants have it. Even that "Swiss" place called Abbey Rd doesn't have it.

go to Baci in Park 97, ask about the chef, he's from north Italy, close to the border with Switzerland, ask before, need booking, he do Cheese fondue in Aosta Valley style, he use real Fontina cheese imported from Italy ( the only cheese for make fondue a la Valdotaine, not Fontal, but FONTINA... ), Fontina cheese marinated in fresh milk, fresh cream, yolk egg and a touch of cinnamon or white truffle paste if you like, for the Swiss cheese fondue he can make with the Raclette cheese, white wine, but not with Kirsch, can no found in Shanghai

You can get Kirsch in Shanghai.

Bols do one which you should be able to pick up at Metro. It is no good for drinking straight (has a kirsch flavor but sweetened and reduced to around 30% alcohol). I guess it is artificial but would still be good enough for Fondue. Better still, the guy who runs Old Dan's Farmhouse in Julu Rd. usually has good Kirsch and other fruit schnapps (I think the brand is Shladerer - a very nice one). No idea where he gets it from but I'm sure he would sell you a bottle.
Naturally, I finished my set. . .

oh no. do NOT buy bols as a replacement for kirsch. it tastes NOTHING like it. sticky and sweet and quite artificial. better to toss in a spoonful of brandy or scotch (or skip it alltogether). i haven't found kirsch here either. and only mildly passable cheese here. gruyere, ementaller, and appenzellar are just ok from cityshop - but NOT from carrefour (made that mistake TWICE). and the last time i went to cheese&fizz all their stock was stuck in customs.

It is restaurant on WuDing Lu near JiangSu Lu, not far from Le Bouchon. It has recently changed management and everything is so much better than before: food, services, prices (was a bit pricey in the past). They have a really good lunch deal (148 for soup or salad, main and desert, plus one soft drink and one cup of tea or coffee). Really nice atmosphere, especially when the weather is nice and you can sit in the garden. Definitely give it a try. I am up for it if you want to go together, it's near my office. We can chat about kids during lunch :)

Where did you get these prices? I am pretty sure these are the old prices, when the restaurant was empty. Like I said, it has RECENTLY changed management (i think something like a month or two) and they have very decent prices now. I only went for lunch, but I did ask to look at their dinner menu and it looked very decent.

I was a HUGE lunch and very fancu and good food (fillet mignons, lobster bisque soup, lemon sorbet, and my friend had veal medallions), the food was amazing, the servings were big, it came with a drink and a coffee...i do think it is a good price for what it is. This is a nice and classy restaurant for a business lunch or a romantic lunch date, western standard service, perfect English...
