I do not recommend those famous touring spots on national days until you don't mind getting yourself drowned in human waves.

Yantai.
u can enjoy real beautiful scene of Bohai & Huanghai.
strongly recommend u go to Yantai University.. it's the university nearest to sea in the world.. beach right outside gate.. and u can jump into the sea from 6th floor of a dorm..
and u can go to Penglai, the fairyplace of China, for about an hour by bus..
and Kongtong Island, one of origins of Daoism, for about half hour by boat..
and Chang Island, u can sit there all day catching fishes & eating seafoods..
so many enjoys..

Antonrr when were you in ZJJ? I have been there last month having an excellent time and lots of fun. Pity is the weather didnt play a good role when we were "lost" in the mountains and trees, too heavy fog and rain messed the view up a little bit. Anyway very nice place with indeed fresh fresh air. Love and enjoy it sooooo much. Maybe we could exchange some pics some time?

Back to your topic, I would definitely suggest t¡bet. I planed to go there within this year but seems the plan has to be postponed due to some reason. Anyway google some info about t¡bet, I bet you will be infatuated.

well, u know yantai is a small city, so i haven't found any real 5*(although many claim they r 5*) as long as I was there.. but many good 4* hotels with great position..
I prefer two: one is Bin Hai Jia Ri Hotel (literally means "holiday on sea"), lies side by side with famous No1 swimming beach and 100 metres from Moon Bay.
another is Jin Hai Wan Hotel (literally means "Golden Bay"), 1km away from the former and right under Yantai Mountain.
both convinient in transportation.

haven't been here for many days..don't know if u r already in Yantai..
and one more thing ..
there's a Jin Sha Tan Beach(means golden beach) in Yantai Kai Fa Qu(Developing District), where u can find the smoothest yellow sand beach of China. so beautiful, although few entertainment equipments. I used to lie down there all afternoon and see the birds flying by, enjoy that peacefulness which can bring your mind to eternal happiness.
another place is Yantai University, u can find so many cheap seafoods right opposite the gate.
have a good trip..

actually, arrived here yesterday and checked into the jinhaiwanjiduian (golden gulf or whatever) as you suggested-perfect, beautiful seaview. it is frightfully calm here, peaceful as you say, after shanghai ehe. town is very clean and well looked after! will head to this yantai kai fa qu and stuff myself with some decent seafood this pm.
thanks for the tips!!!
(you do not happen to have some tips on dalian hotels 8) wouldnt mind to check out a new one next time)

It's funny that this same topic comes up every holiday period in China.

^ xiamens ok, just dont even put a toe in that water

"Has anyone been to Jiu Zhai Gou in Sichuan?"

its quite beautiful but not worth 10 hour mountain coach journeys and crap take the tourist to designated rip-off skim-scam joints, all as part of ur "guided tour"

wait till they get the new airport built nearby and avoid buying anything away from the cities. they dont even sell condoms there. check the itinerary in EXACT detail, coach times, crap unwanted scam detours etc

overall theres better but that new airport will save coach time KTC VCD a blaring 10 hours
