Why foreigners all love Japanese food?

Postby serena_loves_pasta » Sat Dec 11, 2010 10:37 am

Almost all the foreigners I know like Japanese food a lot, such as sushi, sashimi, teppanyaki and so on. I think they eat Japanese food more than Chinese food here. Why is Japanese food so attractive to them? Much tasty than Chinese food? And in Chinese food, which cuisine do you like best? Sichuan, Cantonese, Taiwan or whatever?

Chinese people like Japanese food too. It's popular in China.

I like Dongbei food and Sichuan hotpot. Oh, and Xinjiang food and other goods they offer. :D

In Chinese food cuisine, I like dongbei, xinjiang, taiwan, HK, but not spicy Sichuan. I can't take it.
Well, yes, actually I like Japanese food too. But it's just weird, no foreigner will say "no" to Japanese food. Never~

Yes I agree, foreigners do like Japanese food. It's nice and healthy, very good for you. I don't really know the reason why though.

I'm not a huge fan of Taiwanese and Hong Kongese food.

Little Sheep is one of my favourite restaurants.

I guess I'm not a traditional foreigner. But like Tanna said, Japanese food tends to be very clean-tasting and healthy, so it appeals to a lot of people. I'm not crazy about Japanese sushi, but I like their noodles and seaweed. For Chinese food, I prefer Shanghainese food, but I could eat Cantonese dim sum all day long. Hunan and Sichuan are way too spicy for me.

Hunan food is like chilly and meat floating in oil. I do like their smoked tofu dish though.

Yum. That hot pot place is great and pretty clean. I usually don't eat lamb, but for hot pot I will.

Because it's healthy, looks better, tastes better, and is not full of all kind of poison and substandard ingredients. Quite simple actually.

I've been China for a few years and I've seen enough to always question the quality of everything I see. I know if Chef Zhou can save himself half a yuan om my expense he will. He doesn't really care if my health suffers. Why would the Chinese be any more honest when they prepare your food than they are otherwise. I just trust the Japanese more - that's it.

Because it is an excellent cusine with variety - is healthy and not drowned in oil and you can feel pride has gone into coooking it. The Japanese do everything well except maintaining a reliable economy but that's another story.

Just talking about Japanese food makes me long to return again and chow down some roadside ramen. Sure beats eating the rubbish oiled and bone fragment filled local roadside crap here.

Japanese is definitely NOT my favourite cuisine.

It's not all that healthy either. In fact, Japanese have the world's highest incidence of nasopharyngeal cancer, which is thought to be due to their high consumption of seafood - especially, sharks and other large ocean fish at the top of the food chain, species which tend to accumulate high tissue concentrations of various carcinogens.

For every low-fat Japanese dish, there's another which is totally laden with oil - think tempura.

Japanese people are no slimmer than Chinese, and tend to be shorter. This might well be due to a relatively protein-deficient diet.

So, is Jap food healthier than Chinese? I don't think so. I do believe that both cuisines are probably healthier than most Western food, and especially North American food - which has to be the world's most undesirable cuisine when measured by just about any parameters one cares to apply.

One last point - Jap cuisine gets marked down heavily for those dishes which, regardless of their menu description, arrive on your table looking like an Ebola victim's nasal mucus. I notice that even the most enthusiastic Western fans of Jap food invariably avoid ordering these particular, er, "delicacies".
The bottom line here is we must lower our cost base to make room for a lower margin product mix world and to grow our earnings going forward.

You can pick out all the unhealthy parts of Japanese food, but what about seaweed, miso soup (a great anti-oxidant), rice, tofu etc? I think they are quite healthy.

If seaweed were meant to be eaten, the man would have created it as something being cut off a cow, and not something crowing in the sea...

Cowweed... meat flavored..

You're probably right. I'm also thinking that it might have something to do with the fact that the Chinese drink more and more milk. First time I was here (late nineties) almost no one drank milk. Now it's pretty common. And who knows what lurks inside the Chinese milk except protein. Could be anything. Growth hormones?
