WiFi Catcher

Postby greeneyedlady » Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:26 pm

I'm not sure what you call this device.

I was at KTV last week and needed WiFi so I could go on FourSquare (I'm obsessed about being #1). Anyways... this Chinese girl whipped out a little device that allowed me to use her WiFi. I need that. I know you need to pay for the service through China Mobil?

I just need to know where you go in this city to buy it. I would like to do this on Monday if possible.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

I know the device you are talking about, but I am not sure I can be much help in finding it. The guy I was talking to who had it said he bought it at China Mobile for around 1000 RMB. So I imagine you could probably buy one from any China Mobile.

My lady and I are thinking to get one for her folks out in rural Anhui, but we're not sure if it will work out that far (they get mobile signal, so I would imagine it would work alright). Anyone know?

I know it will work because I had the Sim Card on my iPad 1 last year and it works anywhere in China.

But in order to use my phone I need this device because I have China Mobile on my iPhone and it is not compatible with this company if you just add wifi to the phone.

I will visit a China Mobile store and see if I can find someone who speaks English to help me. I also might try the authorized Apple stores to see if they know where to buy it.

Mister Happy... are you drunk right now? Your spelling is "interesting"!

I've tried to get it to work to no avail on China Mobile.

Another awesome poster has been kind enough to PM me with details about his. So I have a lead to follow.

Also I have 2 cats and one baby soon sleeping on top of me in bed so movement is restricted. I cant move my son into his cot as our third cat will bite me if i try to move him, its an alpha mal thng.

I bought it tonight!!!

I bought the Huawei E5s which cost me 1100rmb then I paid 1198 for the China Unicom 12 month Card. They put it together for me and it works great. They said that if I go over 1GB then I need to pay 80 more rmb for the month.

Now I can Foursquare anywhere and What's to my hearts content!

Here's the picture of what I bought. I got it at Kerry Parkside Mall at a shop called Sundanpulse which is in the basement.

I suppose it's stating the bleedin' obvious here, but did you know that you can use your iPhone 4 or 4s in the same way? That way, you only carry one device instead of two, and you only need one SIM card and plan.

What's more, you don't have to carry a second hard, heavy, fragile, easily-lost, handbag-cluttering device around.

You don't even need to plug your laptop in to the phone. The phone stays in your pocket or handbag, and you simply connect your computer to it via USB or WiFi.

Internet tethering is the single greatest feature of the iPhone 4.

I can do that in HK with my iPhone and HK SIM card, but here it is somehow not possible with the China Mobile plan I have. :(

usb tethering actually works great on android. I sometimes end up using my phone as a 3g unicom dongle, and its fast and works well.
The final trial, please make this work...

China Mobile sucks but I'm not changing my number!

This little device also allows up to 5 different devices to log in to the net. I'm pretty popular now at parties! teehee

China Unicom internet service is a lot better than China Mobile, with this little gizmo you can use the best of both networks!

Might have to pick one up... I will likely have a big ass jacket with me where ever I go for the foreseeable future, can just keep it in a pocket.

Feedback on this model that I purchased a couple of days ago.

1. The battery life sucks. If I go out for about 4 hours, the battery is drained after completely charging it.

2. SIM card won't accept my phone sometimes unless I turn it on and off (reset)

It does it job, for sure - but it has issues.
