Winter 2nd Home

Postby highlander » Wed Feb 08, 2012 7:14 am

Just like how supposedly many New Yorkers keep 2nd Homes in Florida for the winter time, wondering if there is a preferred 2nd home location for Shanghai/Beijing (or other cold location) expats either in China or outside China during the Winter months if have that option of working remotely or retired. If outside China then would need to be able to get extended visa's easily especially if one is doing a couple months lease instead of purchasing a home.

Some countries make it easy to do this. Phillipines I think is relatively loosey goosey on it's residency for those who are retired and want to buy a home there. You can get basically a "retirement" extended visa in certain situations. Not sure what other countries are like. I find that in Asia there is a lot more control and paperwork around r/e purchases. Lots of tax implications and restrictions. Makes sense as they don't have any spare r/e to go round. It's not like Australia or Canada where you can purchase an area the size of a small european country if you've got some cash and are willing to live in an isolated spot.

Sanya. Xiamen. Hainan. Zhuhai. Maintaining a second home here can be quite affordable. Find a local woman in need of a place to stay and let her have the use of it even when you are away. You may find she would be quite grateful. 8)

Thailand.

After the age of 55, can get a "Retiree Visa" Drop 30 grand in the bank, show you have an outside source of income like a pension.....

One Year Visa.....renewable every year as long as you show you are living off your pension, not the money in the bank
Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.....Dave Barry

^^^^Yeah heard about that but still 15+ years to go :-) :-( . If India was not even more crowded and dirtier then China then it might be a good option with it's 10 year visa. Looks like South China with all it's good and bad is the easiest for expats already in China looking to escape the winter for 3 months.

thailand is nice but not everyone is retiree aged. the best i believe is malaysia's long term visa program. you can get a 10 year multiple entry visa if you have a certain amount in a malaysian bank.
