Word in any language means "vigorous, but aging, yet wise"?

Anyone member here whose mother tongue is not English able to assist me here?

Do you have such a word or simple phrase in your language that means this or something very close to this??

In french, we would say: "Il a pris de la bouteille"

It is an expression which refers to the aging and of course bettering of wine (bouteille means bottle)

It is nearly impossible to translate literally (it would be something like :"he has gotten(better) from (or of) the bottle"
