World Cup 2010 qualification

Postby Swiss-James » Fri Sep 11, 2009 3:05 pm

So far 11 teams have made it

South Africa (hosts)
Brazil,
South Korea
North Korea
Japan
Australia
Holland
England
Spain,
Paraguay and
Ghana

Looks like some old favourites- (Argentina, Portugal, France) might not make it - the countdown has already begun...

Any idea what time the matches will be on next summer? I quite enjoyed the late night shenanigans here during the Germany world cup.

Answering my own question. 1330, 1600 and 2030 in South Africa. I believe that is 1930, 1000 and 0230 China time.

Portugal Old Favorite??? Do do what? Ha sorry..being You Swiss you have not idea what you are talking about...stick to skiing mate...eheheheheh
Portugal have always a retarded goalkeeper + no center forward.
All they good at do is to kick england out of the Cup : then when in the semifinal, spend half of the time doing circus tricks, half of the time combing their ever , and for some strange reason, wet hair, and get eliminated.

If Argentina, France and Portugal don't make it, England must surely be favourites to win? COME ON ENGLAND!!!

England v Spain final I reckon. 100 RMB says we win. And that's a general bet - if we lose it doesn't mean I owe 100 RMB to each ShExpat member - you share it between yourselves.

@Jaguar I'm not from Switzerland you chump, I'm english.

Anyway I guess you're right- old "favourite" is a bit strong, but they did make the semis of the last World one, and have done well in the last few europeans. Them not qualifying for this would be an upset.

The Jaguar -

In all fairness to Swiss-James. Switzerland are on the verge of qualifying for the WC as well after having dominated their group. Also, don't worry about France/Germany or Russia/Croatia etc missing next summer's festivities. Surely, FIFA will make sure those teams will meet the teams like Bosnia, Ireland and Sweden in the direct play-off match to ensure the best players participating in South Africa.

ps. England looking great. Lennon was just lethal on that right flank against Croatia on wednesday. Go Spurs.

Switzerland are crap at football.
As shown at last european cup at home ( co-hosted with Austria , another ever hopeless team) + last 150 years of competitive football.
Ok you are not swiss but i think you may, just may, have an identity problem.

We just got to beat Sweden Oct 10th, then we're good....

How difficult can that be...

The Jaguar - The swiss aren't worse than any other European team of their size!!! In fact i reckon they are quite good and have some solid younger players coming through. All the teams qualifying for the WC are good teams though. Especially the ones coming through the rigorous european qualifiers. I'm pretty sure you are aware of that England missed the last european cup (which you so galantly explaines was co-hosted between Austria and Switz).

Victorinchina - Sweden-Denmark on Oct 10?

Swiss-James - Good on you.

Loads of Danes in the Big Bamboo last weekend, and I remember a big Swedish turnout during the games in the last Euros.

Should be a good atmosphere on the 10th for that game.

The tragedy of being Danish is that you know that you've already had your best ever tournament.

I guess beating Sweden every now and then is some comfort!

I hope to see Maradona's particular brand of lunacy during the World Cup, that would just be amazing!

Darned sport forum, I'm supposed to be researching where to live, whether I can drink the water, etc, and all I seem to have read about is tarty women in Donnie and now the footie.

We are currently making hard work of it against the Belarussians though. Not good.

You can't drink the water: water is fine when it comes out of the plant but the pipes are old so it tastes bad and makes you sick.

Live: reckon on about 2 minutes per subway station- and 10 minutes to change trains, then think along those lines. Pudong if you've got kids, Puxi without. Jing-An is very popular with foreigners.

Now back to the footy.

Can't believe Argentina have made it through, there's no way Maradonna will quit now (cos my predictions have been so accurate so far..)

No, but he'll go wibble long before they get there.

Thanks for the advice, I shall come out with a suitcase full of teabags and Heinz Baked Beans :)

I was in Joburg and Durban just about 6 weeks ago. Asked some of my old friends what they expected from the world championship.
The unanimous answer was: ' A lot of visitors will get mugged, raped, and killed'.
Being robbed at gunpoint again in Durban the day before I left, I think they have a point.
