Would you dare ride a recumbent tadpole in Shanghai?

Postby haopengyou » Sat May 21, 2011 8:01 pm

I have always wanted to get a recumbent tadpole (3 wheel recumbent with 2 wheels up front, one in back), put a motor on it and cruise away. I have been riding bikes in China for five years now, and an electric bike for about a year. I am hesitant to try this tadpole because of the lowness of the bike - my head will be about 20" lower than on a typical 2 wheel upright bike. I am afraid that I will not be seen as easily, if at all, plus am concerned about the width of it.

Are my fears founded? Is there anything else I should think of? I could just use it as a country cruiser...and stay out of the city.

Your thoughts?

When it comes to Chinese streets, fear is always justified! I wouldn't ride a recumbent in a sane commuter environment, let alone the madhouse that passes for Chinese streets.

My opinion: Your idea is not a good idea.

I will not ride any pole, well, maybe the Northpole on a secret(!) mission on which I shall investigate if Santa Claus is real or fake.

I will for sure bring me new sovesaek (the one I never used on the MT) and I shall make myself an iglo.
After a rough day of (top) secret(!) investigation shall I comfort my self (for my own kindness) with a cold drink.

I shall keep warm at night by a fire, which I created on a previous trip!
I am on a roll, it's time to go solo...
