Xbox Live and China

Postby Olorion » Mon Jun 25, 2007 5:54 pm

I have been surfing forums and internet, and never actually found a answear.

1. Does Xbox Live work in China?

2. What happens if I connect a "hacked" xbox console to xbox live but with a orginal game?

1. yes, but often the lag will noticably decrease your game skill/capabilities, but you can still play
2. Msft gets better and better every year about banning people with hacked boxes, maybe you can get one of those free 30 day xboxlive trials and see what happens.

Since you know so much about it, Is it just to put the wire from the router to the xbox? And register on the xbox.com?
I think my xbox is a japanese xbox, but I can register it as like a australien account or something.. Maybe swedish account would be
better since I am swedish. But you know..

yes, just plug in the ethernet cable that is coming out of your modem or router. the xbox will tell you everything you need to do after that. you do not need to register online/internet, it's all done via the xbox. You can also plug in a wireless adaptor to the xbox ethernet port if you're using wireless. All the options in the 'connection' menus are self-explanatory. You may not be able to use a hotel's internet connection to access xboxlive (network configuration issues), but using a personal account is no problem.

Real 'China' discs are either from Honk Kong or Taiwan. Xbox is not sold on the mainland. Fake discs on modded boxes are always a risk.

Ocryn: I did play Darkness alot, don tknow how far I got.. I got pretty far but cant remember. Then Overlord came out, and friend came to visit, I visited the old lady and she told that I have her blessing to do whatever the **** i want.. have you been there or not? =) But I have seen NO problem so far.

Coffehawk:
So, if I hook it up live and play those "real" discs in china, will they royaly **** me over and like send some magic electric bolt and burn out my xbox? And ban the number..

real discs on an unmodded box are no problem for hooking up to xboxlive in china, there is just some extra lag.
fake discs means needing a modded box, so that or just a modded box will be detected and they will ban your Live account. they won;t do anything to your box.

about darkness: no dude u need to get much further before encountering the problem i did. but if you are playing on a legit disc, you probably are okay either way. im playing cheap china discs

and yeah. i am modded and banned and it sucks.

back when i was on Live, the lag was pretty bad. the only game that i could play online was gears of war, because that was so popular and i could find a game from HK or japan. but for most other games, we are kind of out in the cold

ooh, yeah if the machine is modded, it will have some slightly different rhythms that the microsoft servers will pick up on. i dont think it matters if youre using a real or a fake disc.

if yours is modded and hasnt been connected to Live yet, you might want to check out xbox-scene.com

hong kong and taiwan have authorized stores, mainland china does not have authorized distributors. If u r using a US xbox, you need an 650~800W voltage transformer, not just a plug convertor (no offense meant if you knew this already).

the 'electronics malls' always have one or two shops that carry modded xboxes, they may be able to replace a power supply or internal component, but it will likely be a trial and error exercise, and good luck negotiating a price :)

go the electonics mall next to that, there's more selection and lower prices, but I don't know if bestbuy sells them anyway.
voltage transformers are very simple, they are literally just 2 coils and maybe a fuse. I can't imagine there's any way to get ripped off when buying one in terms of quality, but an 800W one. Mine is model XY 207A, 800W, a beige box with a silver front face, the name is not in english, but i think the compnay logo is a Y thingy. I forgot how much i paid, but if u know the pries in the US, just knock 25% to 50% off of that.

coffeehawk, can you accidentially fry your xbox. when i first arrived 2 weeks ago, i used only a converter and my xbox powered up and then shuts down and then a smell of burnt electronic came out, and then i had to reset the apartment's fuse box.

is that that a sign that my xbox is hosed?

no way to tell for sure if the fuse blew before the xbox was damaged without trying a proper 120V transformer. First I would unscrew the wall socket cover and look for burnt or especially bare wires. don't touch any bare metal/wires, or call a service person, the 220V here will hurt you, you don't want to know the difference between 220V and 120V. If the insulation was burnt or melted off any of the wires it could be a fire hazard.
A transformer does not cost a lot, and u know u'll buy a new xbox if u fried this one, so no money lost ;)

if you go to a video game shop they will know exactly how you messed up your xbox and can probably sell you the xbox power brick (which probably took the damage) and a suitable converter (which will a big one -- also like a brick)

I paid Y200 for the converter.

Taobao is selling the xbox power brick for Y215

There's no average price, just what they want to sell you it for in the shops, But you can try 3rd floor(or bottom floor) of electronics shop in xujiahui(the big glass ball) or there's game at Jiaozhou lu/Beijing lu, dont pay more than 250rmb
If you read chinese-
