Has anyone been on vacation to Yangtze river cruise?
Is the cruise worth going?

I am planning my vacation for May holidays and this is one of my options.

DONT do it in winter... it's cruise from hell...

"luxurious" boats only runs during summer, and the second best you could get would be a bit surprisin consider you're gonna paid some amount for something far from the best. Have you seen Sex n' the city when they went bizarre with the train compound?? Well the toilet is even smaller that you migh want to sit on the toilet seat so you could close the door, hot water only runs at weird hours and they come in drops, no heater, and the cruise reaches the gorges at weird hours, when it's all dark outside and you cant be bothered to take a look...

It's quite a amazing what the dam is, ess if you are an engineer BUT just dont do it in winter.

We went during Oct holiday in 2005 - it's a good place to go during Chinese holidays because the crowds are limited - only a certain amount of spaces on the boat. We went on the Victoria line. It was filled mostly with tour groups - from the US and Hong Kong. A little touristy - Chinese brush painting demonstration on the lido deck, etc. The food and accomodations were fine and the side trips were good. Scenery was pretty.

I am interested to bring my family to the cruise as well. Where can you book the cruise? I only heard about Tui but they only offer their own cruise line I believe.

Classic Travel China specialises in booking the Yangtze Cruise. Recommended is to start in Chongqing, then cruise downstream 3 nights to Yichang. This covers the best scenery of the 3 gorges and finishes at the new 3 gorges dam. The best boat is the 5 star Century Star with private balconies. Victoria line is also good standard. The cruises will run during the Chinese new Year, beginning on 19 February. It is better to book early for May as it is peak holiday period. Email Monica Fairley monica@classictravel.net.cn or call 21 64160808.
