Year End Vacation for RMB15000?

Postby samcy » Wed Oct 24, 2007 10:39 am

I have posted a question on Vacation for 5 for 5 days for RMB10,000.
From the replies, it seems that it is not doable.

The criteria is it got to be kids friendly, reachable by own drive or short flight away, a least 4 star accomodation.

I have raised the budget to RMB15000. Doable? If yes, where?

You do have to do some homework. Last year ( spring ) we got a nice package from CTrip to Bali - 5 days including airfare and 5 star accommodation for 10K.. The problem is going when lots of other people are going ( we went low season so the deals were pretty good ).

A couple years ago.. we did 3 weeks in Thailand for 2 people for less than 2000 US total. We put together the air fare ( lfy to Shenzhen.. ferry to Macau.. taxi to Macau airport.. Air Asia deal for 500 RMB to BKK ) and the accomodations separately ( we use precision http://www.precisionreservations.com/ and got some very delux rooms in Bangkok for cheap ) .

rather than asking advice from us, why don't you go to your nearest travel agency which would be able to advice you better?

Last January, when I visited Kunming, my travel agent booked me into this one nice hotel (4 star, expo hotel If I am not mistaken) 400 RMB per night --> official rate 800 RMB. But I also book the flight ticket through them. So, in my opinion, it might be cheaper and more convenience to book through travel agency.

When I was in my home country (Singapore) I usually take the family for short vacation for about 5 days during year end. budget flight to neighbouring place (Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Bali) cost about 1000 RMB per pax. Hotel for 4 nights is about 2500 RMB. With 10,000RMB, we can have decent vacation.

Now I am in China, I wonder what choices do I have in China itself.
Of course I can find out from the travel agency. however, it will never be better compared to traveller's opinion especially those travel with kids.

When I was at Bali and Phuket, the hotels that I booked have kids club facilities whereby we left them have fun in the hotel and we had nice massage with peace of mind.

With RMB15K, you may want to try the 4 days/3nights Yangtze cruise. They still have departure dates for December. I think the advise of getting to a travel agent is good. We did one in Aug for 4 for RMB12K inclusive flights and food and outings during the cruise. My kids loved it.

Asj the agent about cruise line China Regal, they were quite good, very clean cabin, excellent staff and food was great, tour guide & most staff spoke excellent English.

You will want the downstream from Chonging to Wuhan.

Thanks for your suggestion. Kids have not gone on a cruise yet. Can take the opportunity to visit Chonging and Wuhan as well

Here is the website for the cruise company so you have an idea on the itinerary. It is cheaper to book through a travel agent than directly. Have fun!
