Using 'pay as you go' China Mobile phone in Hong Kong

Postby operadave » Fri Jan 18, 2008 10:15 pm

I remember reading recently about a new service for using China Mobile phones in Hong Kong but can't find the info. Does anyone know about this, and also how it compares (ease of set up, price, etc.) to International roaming?

I don't have info about that China Mobile service, but I do know its very inexpensive to just buy a HK SIM card and make/receive international calls.

It's actually very easy, if you have been using your China Mobile SIM for more than a year, all you need to do is charge up (reload) RMB200 to your account and call 10086 to request for International Roaming activation. However, if your SIM is less than a year used, you would need to charge up RMB400.

There is a service that anybody can use whereby you just send an SMS to China Mobile with a certain code and your phone automatically has HK roaming -- without a guarantee.

Call 10086.

Any other info?

If I use my China Mobile number in HK and call a mainland number, do I just dial normally?

What about if I use my China Mobile number in HK and call a HK number?

Thanks guys, I didn't know that pre-paid China Mobile had international roaming available until I read about it here. Called 10086 this morning and got it activated. It works in most of Asia, and North America as well, although I didn't bother to listen to the rates, as I'm only interested in HK at this time.
