22 Killed In Deadly Jiangsu House Fire

By Jordan Harris

22 people were killed and three injured yesterday after a fire engulfed a house in Changshu, Jiangsu Province, north-west of Shanghai. The fire broke out at around 4:30 in the morning and firefighters finished putting out the blaze around an hour later. The three injured are all in stable conditions with no life-threatening injuries.

Local police have arrested a man surnamed Jiang who is under suspicion of arson. An investigation is still underway as to how the blaze started and whether Jiang is responsible for intentionally setting the house on fire.

According to CCTV, 29 tenants were inside the house at the time of the fire while some managed to escape, most of them were trapped inside the building with reports saying the doors were locked from the outside. Traces of petrol have also been found around the charred building which further suggests arson was the cause.
