Devastating Coach Crash Kills 36 In NW China

By Jordan Harris

At least 36 people have been killed in a coach accident in northwest China. The coach crashed into the side of a tunnel on the Xi'an-Hanzhong expressway around midnight last night. Thirteen others were injured in the crash and have been taken to a nearby hospital.

The bus was travelling from Chengdu to Luoyang in Henan Province. It's unclear as to what caused the crash however most people are assuming it was down to driver error. The government has tried to clamp down on dangerous driving in the country, however the huge growth in car ownership in the last 20 or so years along with the relative ease of getting a license have largely contributed to a high number of dangerous drivers on the roads here.

The World Health Organization estimates that there were around 250,000 people killed in road related accidents just in 2013 alone.

Minister of Public Security Guo Shengkun has since ordered an investigation into what caused the accident.
