Shanghai Planning New Expressway To Speed Up Journey To Airport

By Jordan Harris

The city's planning bureau is currently planning to build a new expressway in downtown Pudong to connect the area more easily to Pudong International Airport.

The elevated highway will stretch for 14km to the airport and will be built above Longdong Avenue, offering easy access to Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Jinqiao, Tangzhen, Caolu and Heqing towns along the way. The Longdong expressway will have a total of six lanes and should help ease the congestion from Huaxia Elevated Road or Yingbin Expressway, the other two routes to the airport which become busy during rush hours.

It'll also connect with the city's inner, middle and outer ring roads to relieve congestion from those three major thoroughfares.

The existing Longdong avenue will also see major renovations improving the road and giving it four lanes each way to also help deal with traffic.
